We are presently identifying candidates for a Proposal Writer. This position will be responsible for supporting proposal efforts for ATSG’s pursuits and various business lines. The Proposal Writer will help grow the company by strategically managing partner relationships and unique proposals while supporting the VP of Business Development. Candidates for this role should be dynamic and have the ability to lead and follow for a variety of proposal efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for an entry to mid-level Proposal Writer with a passion for technical and persuasive writing.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a US Government Security Clearance (Clearance FAQs HERE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another related field.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience working on Federal proposals valued at $20 million or higher.
  • Federal experience working with a small company and exposure to 8a, hubzone, SDVOSB, WOSB, etc.
  • Must be able to work directly with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) to author and rewrite technical proposal content.
  • Excellent writing skills, including understanding of grammatical rules, punctuation, sentence structure, and active/passive voice.
  • Excellent Microsoft Word skills.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Ability to surge work schedule to meet proposal schedule demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to track and share work progress and action items using a variety of tools, including Microsoft Excel, Project, or Access.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment with a variety of personnel and organizations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities is required.
  • Familiarity with the Shipley Proposal Process; certification preferred.
  • Reads and understands complex Federal documents and develop compliant and creative responses with minimal supervision.
  • Write, format, and edit technical, management, and past performance sections; as well as executive summaries, resumes, quality control plans, and other content.
  • Develop new content and re-use old content in fresh ways to respond to Government solicitation requirements.
  • Design and develop proposal-support documentation, including templates, outlines, schedules, compliance matrices, section writing guidance, and kick-off presentations.
  • The Proposal Writer is responsible for monitoring RFP opportunities and drafting and assembling responses to RFP’s / RFI’s, sales presentations as well as providing marketing support.
  • Responsible for responses to requests for proposals (RFP's), Request for Information (RFI) quality control, including reviewing and proofing documents, presentation booklets, general letters, and other reports prior to transmittal for accuracy, reliability and conformity to firm standards and format.
  • Researches, monitors and refers RFP/RFI opportunities to management.
  • Prepares abbreviated outlines/overviews of RFP's and RFI's focusing on important proposal specifications.
  • Creates proposal checklist and schedule timeline, assigns staff tasks, follows proposal format and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborates with the business development team to develop proposal sections that clearly articulate the team’s solutions and strategies, approach to performing the work, compliance standards, and client expectations.
  • Applies interpersonal and interviewing skills to gather needed information from teammates and clients to support writing activity.
  • Effectively researches and collaborates with team to present proposed approaches and solutions to substantiate team’s solutions and strategies.
  • Writes clear, persuasive, and articulate proposal sections; translates complex ideas to easily understandable text.
  • Identifies resolves, mitigates, and escalates faps and risks to Business Development Director and/or operations leadership.
